In Chile, and maybe all of South America, every school marches through the town plaza at certain times of the year for a parade. These aren't parades like the US though with floats and candy and clowns on bikes, these are military style parades where the kids dress up in their uniforms, stand in rows and columns, and march to the beat of the music. There were only 3 or 4 other schools marching that day along with the air force.
We started practicing in school about a month before the actual parade, and it took about an hour to get to get everyone in their places the day of.
And the actual parade lasts literally 3 minutes.
We marched two blocks.
And it was about 80 degrees with the sun beating down on us.
Why you may ask? Good question. I don't know. But I'm pretty sure since a lot of the schools here are private or semi-private, they march through the town to show how awesome they are and promote the school so they get more students....it's all just a business I guess...
Me and my air force friend Rocio
Me and some of my class...they all ran to buy ice cream and go home because they were so hot.
