There is a very typical and important drink in Peru called chicha that is everywhere. Chicha is basically a wine only fermented once. There is also chicha in Chile, but it's made from grapes...the chicha in Peru is made from corn. There is purple chicha which is juice (without alcohol) and yellow chicha which is actually fermented. They've also made different varieties like strawberry to give it a different flavor. It is very common for people that make their own chicha in their house and if they want to sell it, they put a stick with red plastic wrapped on the end of it like a flag to show that there is chicha for sale for travellers or anyone who wants it. Since I had to try it, we went to a place in Ollantay and ordered a glass of yellow and strawberry thinking they'd be normal-sized...instead they were gigantic. We drank as much as we could without getting sick...
