Downtown Concepcion

I got my first tour of downtown Concepcion when Lorena and I met her friend Loreto at her apartment. She lives in one of the tallest buildings in Conce so we had a great view of the whole city. We bought peanut butter(!) at the Lider (which is like their Wal-mart) and met her for breakfast. Then we hit the roof to check out the views before hitting the streets. We walked all around downtown - past the government center with a huge historical mural inside, through Parque Ecuador with a group of guys playing American football and venders selling kites, to the (tiny) library with no books, through a school ramada where I tried a "Calzon roto" (broken underwear) pastry, to the main plaza and cathedral, past the malls to the judicial center and into a cafe on the 15th floor across the street where Lorena took a picture of me down below in front of the tribunales. Then we took a bus back to Lorena's house to drink some terremotos and eat a delicious home-cooked lunch. Later, I saw more of downtown with Lorena and her boyfriend when we drove up the hill into el Cerro Caracol. It's such a beautiful city with green and ocean all around!

Those two hills in the background are known as the "tetas de conce" (the boobs of Concepcion) because, well, that's what they look like.

I'm somewhere down there with my arms in the air!

Terremoto!
