Humberstone

My friend took me to Humberstone today to check out the ghost town that was once a thriving desert community that mined salt. It is a National Cultural Monument in Chile because it is the best preserved salt mining town in the country...all the over 50 other ones didn't last. Since we missed out on the schedule last time we tried to come, this time we brought our lunch there and had a picnic so that we could take full advantage of the day. We ate some delicious empanadas and then started our tour.

Some toys the kids used to play with:

The plaza

The theater

The school!

Dancing in the streets of a ghost town of course

The train station

Just one of the guys

The industrial sector

The dentist's house with it's own backyard complete with a little tree

The general store
