Fiestas Patrias en el colegio

On Saturday the school had a festival to celebrate the Fiestas Patrias de Chile so every staff member had to come dressed in a traditional Chilean outfit. I borrowed an outfit from a friend and came as a Nortina woman. All the classes that didn't present a dance at the Dia de la Familia had to present a traditional Chilean dance at the festival. My class was one of them so it was my job to teach them a traditional Chilean dance...which I know nothing about! Luckily, the gym teacher helped me and taught them the Cueca, the national dance in Chile. The kids did such a great job and the dance turned out great. The other classes all performed different traditional dances like the mapuches and a dance from Easter Island.

After and during the dances, each class (the parents) was responsible for a table at the Ramadas...which is like a fair where they sell food and have games for kids. There were all the traditional Chilean foods: empanadas, pastel de choclo, ceviche, completos, etc. and tons of different games for kids to play. It was a fun day for everyone!
